Performance Assessments engage students in authentic, high-level work that is aligned to curricular standards so that teachers can more carefully plan for instruction that meets students where they are and moves them forward.
Additionally, an analytic rubric better handles weighting of criteria. So, some educators believe a holistic or global assessment of student performance better captures student ability on certain tasks.
The writing assessment must be administered in one day. Through reading great classic and contemporary works of literature representative of a variety of periods, cultures, and worldviews, students can vicariously inhabit worlds and have experiences much different than their own.
To further consider how many levels of performance should be included in a rubric, I will separately address analytic and holistic rubrics.
A rubric can have as few as two levels of performance e. Three copies of the report are provided.
Points on the continuum are defined by the scoring rubric for each domain. Rosters contain the names of all students tested. Although these domains are interrelated during the writing process, a strength or area of challenge is scored only once under a particular domain.
But holistic rubrics can also be employed for more substantial assignments. The texts for these tasks are included where we have obtained permissions; in some cases you will need to purchase the relevant texts.
